A Sacrifice of Righteousness

I am a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1). I lay down my life. I lose it. That’s a sacrifice of righteousness.

Everything I am and all my hopes and dreams in this world, I lay down at the feet of Jesus.

God created this world, so any of my hopes and dreams and plans for the time I’m living here are only possible because He first made it. I couldn’t dream about climbing a mountain or going to some exotic location or even living a quiet life if He hadn’t first created this world and made everything possible.

So when I lay down my life, when I give Him my all, I’m only giving to Him what He gave me first. It’s all His anyway. Why would I hold onto it?

And yet, we do. We do hang onto our hopes and dreams.

I hang onto mine so tightly, trying to make it all happen. And some of it will happen because of my efforts — because He created a world that allows for that.

But what if I gave it all to Him and let Him lead me? What if I laid down my life and trusted Him? Even if the path doesn’t head where I think I want it to go? What if?

The earth is the Lord’s, and all it contains (Psalm 24:1). Everything in it is His. Why would I hang onto it and think I can do His job and create my own path?

He is the author and finisher of my faith. Write my story, Lord.

I offer all I am to Jesus. This is my sacrifice of righteousness. This is my life.

I will go where He wants me to go and do what He wants me to do. This world that offers me so much, so many opportunities, is His. All possibilities are His. I will trust in Him.
