Flood of God

Of Noah it was said, this one shall give us rest from our work and from the toil of our hands arising from the ground which the Lord has cursed (Genesis 5:29).

Washing of the water. Baptism. Cleansing from sin. Repentance. These all give us rest.

We rest from our works when we get cleansed by Christ. He did the work to satisfy God’s wrath over our disobedience.

The flood is the first showing of the cleansing God gives. Noah was obedient. He entered and led the world into God’s rest by his obedience.

The flood of God, the baptism, was a sign and brought new life.

Am I obedient? Do I enter the rest of God?

Oh Lord, flood me. Let the waters of cleansing flow over me that I may be renewed. And let me walk, let me live in your rest.

It’s the place I want to be, this rest our God gives. But it comes with baptism, washing, flooding. So much must get washed away. I will go through the flood and not be drowned (Isaiah 43:2).

When you walk through the waters I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you..
Isaiah 43:2-3
Isaiah 43:2-3 I am the Lord your God.

Do I want to pray for a flood? The end result is what I want, but do I want the road there?

Do I want to go through a flood? I say I do, but will I fight it? Or will I walk in obedience, doing crazy things like building an ark when it’s never rained? Will I endure the mockery?

Will I walk the road of suffering?

Will I obey? Will I walk by faith? Will I enter God’s rest?

Will I be cleansed and see new life?

Only the Lord knows (Ezekiel 37:3). And He is the Giver of Life. I pray for His flood, His living water, His life in me.
