He Holds Me Fast

The Lord is in His temple. He is on His throne (Isaiah 66:1). He is over all. He sees all. He is with me. None of that changes. Ever.

I might change, but He doesn’t. Where can I go from His Spirit? Where can I hide from Him? (Psalm 139:7) There is nowhere. There is nowhere that I can hide from the Lord.

As far as the east is from the west, God finds me. He guides me. From infinite distance and places, God finds me and holds me fast. He holds me steady. (Psalm 139:10)

I’ve always loved Psalm 139. I was too young the first time I heard it to really understand all it meant, but I could imagine running with the dawn and I could imagine being pursued by One who cared enough to care for me.

Blog Title. Psalm 139

These were the first verses I memorized. And as I’ve grown, I’ve revisited them over and over. If I take the wings of the dawn, if I settle at the far side of the sea, even there Your hand shall guide me, Your right hand shall hold me fast (Psalm 139:9-10).

No matter where I go, my God’s hand guides me. And not only does His hand guide me, but His hand holds me fast. He holds me.

He will always be in His temple and always be on His throne. He will always be over all and seeing all. And He will always, always, guide me and hold me fast.

I may run. I may hide. I may seek new pastures. I may change. But God never does. He is always there, in the same place, holding me fast.

I may stumble and fall. I may get caught up in the cares of this world. I may expect things of God that He never promised, certain feelings and experiences. But God is with me, holding me fast. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

Wherever the wings of the dawn take me, and whatever I find at the far side of the sea, my God pursues me and finds me and holds me fast. He is there.

He is an unchanging God. He is trustworthy. And He never leaves. In spite of all my moods, railing, demands, doubts, joys, faith, and trust, God never changes His character, or His truth, or His love.

Even there, He guides me. Even there, He holds me fast.

The Lord is in His temple. He is on His throne. And He is with me.
