And he [David] appointed some of the Levites as ministers before the ark of the Lord, even to celebrate and to thank and to praise the Lord God of Israel (1 Chronicles 16:4).
I would do well to remember that there were priests of my holy God continually thanking Him and praising Him.
When there’s nothing in me, when all else fails, when irritability and feelings that everything is wrong strike and consume, I would do well to thank and praise my Holy God.
When all is well, when joy abounds, when everything feels right and good, I would do well to thank and praise my holy God.
For I am a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9). Like the priests of old, I would do well to thank and praise my holy God continually.
Oh give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples. Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; Speak of all His wonders. (1 Chronicles 16:8-9)
I can never go wrong by thanking and praising my Holy God.
Glory in His holy name; Let the heart of those who seek the Lord be glad (1 Chronicles 16:10).
Let my heart be glad. I will seek the Lord and be glad.
When everything feels right, it’s easy to be glad. When everything feels wrong, not so much. But here’s my answer: Glory in His holy name. Seek the Lord and let my heart be glad.
Let my heart be glad. Do not keep my heart from being glad. Do not deny it. God is good. God is faithful. Speak of all His wonders.
It all starts with giving thanks and praise. So I will thank my holy God. I’m choosing to thank Him.
I can pick just one thing that I’m anxious or irritable over, and I will choose to thank my God in the midst of it and for it. I will make known His deeds. I will sing to Him. I will glory in His holy name.
I will let my heart be glad today, right now. Because my God is faithful. He is good. He is worthy of praise. Amen.
*I’m memorizing the 1 Chronicles 16:8-36. I’ve never been great at memorizing, but for this I’m determined. I’m adding one verse each day. So far, I have verses 8-11 memorized. Do you want to join me? These verses have it all: seeking God, praise, thanks, gladness, glory to God.*
